Recycling Update

Photo from NBC DFW

The fire: On Wednesday, December 28th, a fast-moving fire swept through Republic Services recycling center in Plano, leaving the city without the ability to handle and process our recyclables (so they would have to go to the landfill). However, we have some good news on that:

The City of Plano resumed processing recyclables on Tuesday, January 10. Republic Services notified the City it is using a temporary site until a permanent solution can be found. By resuming processing, the City will prevent approximately 90 tons a day of materials from going to the landfill.

Changing schedule for recycling: You should have had a notice on your bin, but our neighborhood is going to have a shift in its recycling schedule.

  • The collection day is still Thursday*
  • Our collection week is changing to “orange weeks”
  • Our first recycling collection of 2017 was January 12th
  • Our next recycling collection of 2017 will be January 26th

* - On weeks with Monday holidays, our pick up day will continue to be Friday
